Dr. Herb Gooch & Jon Sharkey “Local Politics: 1960-2018”
September 8, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
From typewriters to Twitter, from John Flynn to Tim Flynn, Jon Sharkey and Herb Gooch have witnessed one of the most interesting periods in Ventura County political history.
Jon Sharkey was born during the Truman Administration and worked on his first campaign in 1960. He grew up south of Boston where politics ranked just behind the Red Sox and Bruins, and just ahead of the Celtics in popular interest. For the past 24 years, he has served on the Port Hueneme City Council, ranking, so he’s been told, as the second longest serving councilmember in city history.
Dr. Herbert Gooch, Professor of Political Science, has been a beloved professor at California Lutheran University since 1987. Not only has he written extensively about politics but he is frequently interviewed and quoted by the print and broadcast media in regard to local issues and candidates. He has managed political campaigns at the city, county, and state level and was held in such high regard that he was selected to serve on the original Ventura County Campaign Finance Ethics Board.
